HVAC Circuit Board Product Label Design
This wasn’t just a label—it was a chance to make a technician’s job easier.
The product: a next-gen HVAC circuit board with built-in NFC programming. Instead of crawling into tight, dark basements to manually configure settings, techs could now program the board remotely using a smartphone.
But the NFC feature only works if the user knows exactly where to place their phone. And with the board’s irregular shape, that wasn’t obvious.
I designed a label that acted like a user interface—bold, directional, and unmistakable. A clear target graphic around “PLACE PHONE HERE” turns the label into a visual guide, streamlining the process and reducing friction.
Form met function, and the result is a label that enhances the product, not just explains it.
These are 2 earlier design ideas that were scrapped, thankfully. The one on the left just didn't work and the one on the right, well, let's just say it looked a bit too much like the branding that a certain political party used in Germany in the 1930s and 40s.
